Need Help?
We're here for you.

At Women Giving Back, our goal is that each woman leaves our boutique with a renewed sense of self-worth, empowerment, and a new wardrobe for her journey.

The foundation of everything we do is to ensure women and
children receive the basics in life.

The WGB Store is filled with donated clothing, shoes, accessories, and other essentials for both women and children. Our clients are qualified by their case managers and social workers; most are typically living in shelters or part of a transitional program in and around the DMV area.

Our volunteers provide personal service and uplifting interaction in a unique boutique-like atmosphere. Together, we are able to provide compassion and companionship in otherwise tough situations.

Many clients leave their crises with only the clothing on their backs. We are here to help them restock basic necessities free of charge. Through generous donations we make sure these women and children have what they need to rebuild their lives and restore their dignity.

This increased self-esteem leads to an obvious resilience, poise and pep in their steps. They have their own checklist of to-dos and our job is to get them every step closer:

  • Secure a stable roof over their head
  • Gain and maintain employment
  • Become more financially sound to make ends meet; and then some
  • Apply their experiences and opportunities toward learning tools for their children

We watch them move up and away from the hurdles that once held them back.

In 2023

17,667

hours volunteered.

25,800

women and children served.

$ 325,562

in-kind value of clothing distributed.

Volunteer

On store days we need volunteers to help clients shop for clothing, restock the racks, provide childcare, check out our shoppers and overall, manage needs much like a retail department store.

Become a personal shopper, coordinate a donation drive; on or off-site (clothing, accessories, shoes, snack packs, diapers and more!), facilitate corporate and community outreach and/or become a sort leader.

We welcome individuals, groups, families, schools/universities, businesses of any size, religious organizations, clubs and more. Children are welcome to volunteer if at least 12 and accompanied by an adult, 16 unaccompanied.

Meet our 2023 Individual Volunteer of the Year: Sheila Green-Singleton!

Since 2019, Sheila has graced our facility as a β€œCome and Go” volunteer. With 463 lifetime hours invested, her smiling face can be spotted at WGB every Wednesday. As the Lead of the Children’s Section in our bustling warehouse, she’s able to train volunteers and keep the many items organized and pipeline flowing. She helps to create a place where dignity and warmth intertwine for our Moms.

Sheila’s commitment doesn’t stop at the children’s section. As a valued member of our Warehouse Committee, she’s rolled up her sleeves to streamline processes, optimize storage, and ensure that our resources flow seamlessly. When December arrives, Sheila can be spotted at our annual Santa’s workshop and we can always count on her to jump in wherever needed.

Sheila also guided our referral partners through our annual open house, where she acts as a Tour Guide. She is able to bridge the gap between our mission and the hearts of those who support us. And that doesn’t stop at our doors, Sheila also steps into the world as a WGB Representative. At service fairs, community gatherings, and other offsite events, she invites others to join our cause. We’ve hit golf balls with her at our Top Golf event, danced at Cinco, and played a few cornhole games (and lost to her!).

In addition to receiving our Individual VOTY Award, Sheila was also selected as Loudoun Cares‘ 2023 Outstanding Senior Volunteer! As you can see, Sheila is a model WGB supporter and all-around amazing community member.

Today, we celebrate Linda Le as our Youth Volunteer of the Year!

Linda’s tireless efforts as a volunteer have left an indelible mark on our community. She stepped up to lead volunteer shifts an astounding 37 times in 2023, setting a record among our Sort Leaders. Her dedication isn’t just about numbers; it’s about the impact she creates. Linda moves through our warehouse and boutique with laser focus. She ensures volunteers are engaged, inventory is organized, and WGB is ready to serve our clients. Her quiet efficiency speaks volumes, reminding us that impactful work need not be loudβ€”it simply needs to be done with heart.

The President’s Volunteer Silver Service Awardβ€”an honor bestowed upon those who go above and beyondβ€”found its deserving recipient in Linda. Her countless hours at WGB (266 since June 2022) reflect not only her commitment but also her heart. Whether sorting clothes, assisting clients, or organizing events, Linda’s presence radiates kindness and purpose.

But Linda’s impact extends beyond our walls. Driven by her interactions with children at WGB, she founded β€œSpeak For All,” a youth-led nonprofit organization. Through online English language immersion classes, Linda empowers young learners to find their voices, bridging cultural gaps and fostering understanding. Amid her busy schedule as a high school junior, she remains steadfast in her mission.

Linda’s dedication and compassion remind us that small acts of kindness ripple outward, creating a better world for all. Thank you, Linda, for being a shining example of service and inspiration!
